I have had the generic.win virus on my computer for a while now due to my anti virus program not being able to remove it. It has been causing internet browsing issues specifically with google and other search engines.

However i believe that the virus has currupted my "Windows repair tool" that is required to reformat my system. I start my computer and hold F8 to bring up the menu and select the repair computer option and it brings me to the menu where i can either "start windows normally" or run system repair tool. When I try to run the system repair tool i know it is supposed to bring me to a menu to select language and what not and ulitmately restore my computer. Unfortunatly it just returns to the normal boot up and repair option over and over upon selecting the option. I would like to know if there is a way to fix this because i just want a virus free computer.

My system is a dell inspirion running 64 bit windows 7. I have backed up all the files i would like to so whoever knows of a solution i would appriciate the help very much!

Welcome to the Seven Forums, JonRunner.

There is no virus called generic.win in Google search. There is a Trojan.Win32.Generic!BT Virus as well as a Trojan.Win32.Generic Virus.

Please give the correct name of the Virus to be able to help. Also please fill up the System Specs for your computer as best as you can. You may look at http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html for help.

Now my next question is that if Vipre Internet Security has identified these viruses then can't it remove or at least quarantine them?

If you cannot remove these viruses in the Windows Platform then try removing them in the Safe Mode or better still during a boot-time scan if VIS has that option.

It is able to find the virus' and quarantine all but the win32.generic one it says that it failed when trying to quarantine it. I am not sure if it has a boot time scan option I will check that out tho and update. Asap
