Windows Update bundles driver with software package?

So I downloaded the latest driver for Intel 4500MHD integrated graphics for my laptop from windows update (which it did automatically after installing Windows 7) and I found out that it isn't just the display driver... its also the software package for display settings etc. from Intel. I don't want this because it installs startup keys, a right-click context menu, and a tray icon, all of which I would never use. Is there anyway to uninstall the software package but keep the display driver?

I find it kind of lame that Microsoft would bundle drivers like this.

Just a thought, not sure if it works. Have you checked if you can find this display settings software packet in Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features? If yes, just uninstall it.

isn't it intel's fault? microsoft only supply the driver that intel gave them...

i don't have the same driver as you, my ageing laptop has intel945 graphics, but the following may work for you too...

run regedit, find HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\Shellex\ContextMenuHandlers then delete the igfxcui key. (you may want to export it first, so you can reinstate later if needed.)

run msconfig >> startup >> untick all the intel common user interface boxes.

reboot, and your annoyances will be gone!

this worked for me on my 945 graphics - hope it helps for you. and i hope it doesn't break anything else down the line...

OK. I was thinking installer installs drivers and software separately, so uninstalling software wouldn't uninstall the driver.

You'd better then to do like Mickey told here above.
