Windows Update error 80073712 - how to fix...

I get the following message when I try to run windows Update:

"Install new Windows Update software"

When I hit install now, i get error 80073712

Upon running Windows Update readiness tool checksur.log shows 6 unfixed errors...

I have tried resetting the WU system, to no avail.. (reset_windows_update_full.bat)
SystemRestore is not really an option, this problem is an issue since a while...

sfc /scannow returns

How can I fix this w/o a reinstall?

Tried this:

Go to Administrative Tools/Services, and stop the Windows Update service. Then go to the folder c:/Windows/SoftwareDistribution and delete all of the files and folders. Then go back to Services and restart the Windows Update service which will recreate all of those folders again. Then manually run the Update Service and everything should work.

No difference...

I couldn't find how to create a CODE block - so i uploaded the report as an attachment.

The sticker is an OEM COA: Windows 7 Pro OEM software (systembuilder)

I know windows is activated... Did i put this thread in the wrong forum?

The pound sign mark, number mark, tic-tac-toe mark or however one calls it that is located there in that row above where you type your reply is the code block mark.

Would you be so good as to put the report in a code block?

Ah ha,
I just saw the fine print at the bottom of one of your posts where you say that you are dual-booting with Mint Liinux.

Dual-boot scenarios can be problematic. I'll ask a couple of chaps if they have any suggestions or advice on that matter.

You've got a few corrupt catalogs. Since sfc /scannow isn't working, I suggest reviewing these threads to see if anything helps.

that all looks good.

I'm not sure what has caused your problem.

Do you possibly have a restore point you can use? Although I do not expect a restore point to help in your case, but certainly worth a try.

RESTORE TO A PREVIOUS SYSTEM RESTORE POINT
1) WIN | type SYSTEM RESTORE | ENTER | NEXT
| Choose a different restore point radio button | NEXT
2) Show more restore points checkbox (lower left)
3) Highlight the desired restore point
4) Scan for affected programs (lower right)make a note of affected programs
5) CLOSE | NEXT | FINISH
