Hi,

Why can't windows update stop when it is stopped? I tried changing the settings to "only check for updates but let me decide when/if to install them" but clicking OK does not respond. When I stopped its process from task manager under "processes" tab, it will reappear by itself after a few seconds. I know i needed windows update to auto-check and auto-install updates but I am trying at the moment to update avast antivirus on a Gateway PC that I've just clean-installed its windows 7 home premium. Meaning that I want this PC secured first before letting everything else do whatever they want when the PC is internet-connected. Now every time I tried to update Avast antivirus, it will hang at zero progress while windows update is gaining in data size of updates.

any tips and advice will be very much appreciated. thanks a bunch in advance and have a nice day.

best and God bless,

Here are my thoughts with what you have provided.
- Windows Update is Broken, maybe?
- Somehow a conflict exists between either Update or Avast.

I suggest uninstalling Avast. Make sure you go through your REGEDIT to get all files named Avast. Reboot
Now Go through the Update Repair process.

thank you banned user for replying with your suggestion. if you read carefully my first post, i wanted the gateway mini pc to be secured first before anything else get connected to the internet/network. this is why i needed to disable windows update first and turn it on later after fully updating avast free version and malwarebytes free version too.

but thanks anyways.
