Wireless network card for PC a good idea?

Currently we have a wireless network in our house, but one PC downstairs does not have a wireless card. The room is also not wired for Internet cable service, so we are using one of those connections that plugs into the electric socket.

I'm wondering if I replace the current network card with a wireless card if my connection would be faster? Also, do wireless cards for PCs also come with the option to hard wire...in case the wireless connection ends up being slow since the PC is downstairs from the router?

I use one of those Netgear wireless mini USB adapters. Works great. Whether it will be faster than what you have right now I cannot tell. Compare the specs.

Thanks...I'm looking at a pci wireless card now because they are suppose to have a stronger connection...but the USB seems the easier route.

The PCI ones may be stronger because most of them have a little antenna. But there are also USB models with antenna.

In addition..... please check out this USB Wi-Fi adapter, it has a 9dBi and the Antenna is replaceable. A PCI card here with: 3x 2dBi Detachable Omni Antenna. I'd go for the higher dBi for greater wireless coverage. Another great option is to get either a Wireless Extender or Repeater. Also, if you have one of those modern/sophisticated router, they have an option to enable wireless extender or repeater, my Buffalo router has this option.
