WMC not waking PC for recordings

Running a dedicated PC ( dedicated to television ! ) with a Hauppauge 2250 tuner card.

Recording works fine if the PC is active ( not asleep ) but if I set up something to be recorded ( OTA channels only ) when I'm not around, using the WMC guide, it will not wake up the PC from sleep mode and record the program.

Everything I am able to find says that WMC WILL wake up the PC so I suspect it is some obscure setting buried 138 levels deep on some obscure panel path but I sure can't find it !!!

Any ideas or thoughts ??????

Do you happen to have a screen saver, or password protection when coming out of sleep?

Turned off the screen save and there is no password for waking from sleep state.

Should WMC be left 'active/on/not shut down/open and not closed' ?? Or would that prevent going into sleep state ???

Both of my WMC pc's will wake and record. Both are not even running WMC when put into sleep mode. I agree with you....seems maybe there is some deep setting about allowing WMC to wake the pc for recording purposes. It's not in the 'recording options' menu of WMC is it?

I am jumping in just to say that I will be trying sleep mode shortly... I am trying to get a little more "green" with my system. plus I hate the periodic flashing drive light on my system at night... it is way too bright.

So anyway, I want to keep this thread alive in case I have issues.

In a quick search, I have seen a reference to having the system go into an "S3" sleep mode... perhaps this is the OPs issue???

Joe,

Go look at your Media Center entries in the task scheduler. Look at the properties for 'startrecording' and see if it's set to wake the computer to perform that task. Let us know what you find.
