Hi,
I have a Hauppauge Win TV HVR-1250 tuner.

I have finally had to give in and connect a Comcast cable box to my computer to get the channels I've always had, to show up.

I've gone thru all the steps of going thru the Media Center TV setup, including setting up the Media Center remote and sensor that came with the computer to work with the cable box and remote.

I almost never watch TV on my computer. I've always used Media Center to schedule to record TV shows from the Media Center Guide and then putting them on dvd or on a flash drive to watch on the TV in the living room.

But...now I have to manually use the cable remote to change the channel on media center to the channel I want to record. Even using the Media Guide and choosing the program I want to record tonight and having it setup to record that program, it will only record the program on the channel I last left it on. It's as if Media Center only reads whatever the channel setting is on cable channel 3.

And if it helps, the cable remote will change the channel for me if I did watch live TV on my computer, but the Media Center remote won't.

Thanks for any help!

To clarify my question somewhat:

I watch Howdy Doody on my computer at 5pm on channel 22. At 6pm, I change over to the news on channel 10.

At 7pm, I set my computer up to record 'Rubicon' tonight on cable channel 40 at 9pm. I use Media Center Guide to find it and click 'record' and watch it later tonight, because right now, at 7pm, I want to watch the ballgame on my living room tv.

After the ballgame is over, about 11:00pm, I go back to my computer to watch Rubicon, that I think I have set up to record.

But Media Center hasn't recorded 'Rubicon' on Channel 40. It has recorded a cooking show that was on channel 10, the last channel I had on when I watched the news at 6pm.

What have I done wrong in my Media Center setup after having hooked up the cable box and finally getting the whole remote thing set up?

Unless your computer can control the cable box (which it appears it cannot do), you'll have to manually tune the cable box to whatever channel you want to record.
