Hey guys I upgraded from the RC to windows 7 ultimate. I keep all my stuff on separate drives from my OS(easier to do re-formats once a year). the problem is that at first i couldn't even look at the things on my storage drives i change ownership and permissions to allow for everyone to have all access. Things looked all shiny at first then I set wmp12 up now i noticed random songs were missing from some albums when looking at them thru wmp looking thru the drive itself things were shiny except a stupid lock on the song tracks that were not showing up in wmp. Further investigation shows that all the lock files seem to have the IDs not shared and they all go into a folder called unknown. Ive reformatted dozens of times with this hdd setup with no issues. I love windows 7 and WMP but i can not deal with my music library all out of sorts. PLZ help

I don't have an answer to your question. I am posting here because I am having the same issue. All my videos files have a lock on them and I didn't do anything for that to happen. The weird thing is I still can play the videos, but I would appreciate that someone give me a hint as to what could possibly have happened.

It's a total mystery to me and this is not the first time that I am confronting this frustrating occurence. Can someone please help?

Hey ted here is what i did. I took a folder that didnt have a lock on it, right clicked > properties > security. Do the same to the folder with the locks on it. You will probably notice that under groups and user names they are different. So what i did is click the edit button on the locked folders and add the names that appeared on the unlock folder. make sure to set the permissions at the this time for your new groups. Problem solved no more locks no more permission errors on my network while trying to share folders. :D Hope this helps you.

Padlock on my Files

Hi Avaricey,

Thanks a lot for your reply. After written my previous post, I did some search of my own and found an answer from another member in Windows 7 forums. Basically, it is said to right-click on the folder containing those files with padlock on them and then on "Properties". After that, click on the "Security" tab an then on "Advanced". In the next window, click on "Change permissions" and finally in the last window, put a checkmark for both "Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent" and "Replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object". After that, click on "Apply" and "OK". That should do the trick. It worked for me.
