Solved XFX HD Radeon 5770 Under-Powered?

after doing a HDD change out (was 5 now only have 3) i noticed something wrong with the 6pin to dual molex connector one of the 12v wires had melted at the molex connector, at first i thought it was nothing massive to worry about but then i remembered while playing GTA EFLC i kept getting severe Frame-drops and screen resets, i know the game itself is a bad port but i first noticed a Frame drop or several in my two Guitar Hero Games, Ive repaired the cable and kept a VERY close eye on it and the wire gets warm but not burn temp, now Ive come to two conclusions, 1. My unbranded 500W PSU just isn't up to the task to power the card and im better off buying a PSU with a 6PIN already on it instead of using the splitter. 2. the cable i bought was extremely cheap and you can tell by sight its a Knock Off.

Ive done a few PSU sites to see what everything i have pulls in and the lowest was 331W highest was 474W so logically im a bit baffled ha, what is it really pulling.

i believe my specs are below, any advise?

Most people here would recommend using a branded psu such as Corsair etc esp if gaming. I always go over spec re psu power with my builds - also I don't like molex to gfx card 6 pin adapters, I much prefer buying a psu with dedicated hard-wired power lines (such as you get with good quality psu's). One problem with buying a good psu used to be that they often came with a huge harness of cables for HDD's, DVDs, multi gfx cards etc. This could make the case quite crowded and a bit of a hassle. Nowadays modular psu's solve that problem - you just use the connectors you need.

that dos'nt really answer my question, all you've done is give me a description on PSU's, im very tech savvy, but as this is a first to ever happen in my 10 years or so working and building rigs its come as a big confusion,
i know about the "have more than you need" i was asking with what i have which isn't a lot on today's standards in gaming rigs, why was my GFX causing a burn on just 1 of the 12v wire and not the other, my plan is to buy a branded PSU but with sites giving me totally different Wattage ratings which i stated its a debate to get a 500 or a 600, i don't plan on adding any more GFX cards or peripherals, i don't even use the DVD drive as all my games are now ISO, im not to fussed about modular or fixed as i have plenty of room on the opposite side for cable management without restricting any airflow and mine is set as Negative pressure anyway and all heat is displaced out the top 2 and the top rear fan (my psu sits at the bottom) of the case as its a custom not a store bought basic
