XP Mode Integration Features not enabled.

I meant completely uninstall Virtual PC and XP Mode from your host system, this post tells you how. Before uninstalling, copy the XP Mode vhd file to a safe place. It's located in C:\Users\Your_Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual PC\Virtual Machines

After uninstalling, reboot and reinstall Virtual PC and XP Mode. Run XP Mode one time, shut it down. Rename the new XP Mode vhd (or move it to another location) and replace it with the one you backed up before uninstall.

IF everything works, backup XP Mode files as told in this thread.

Please help me.
I had the same problem as the OP - a technician changed something in the “Integration Features” (I guess he touched the “Integration Features/Networking” from “Shared Networking NAT” to “Realtek PCIe bla bla”) because it didn’t acquire an IP from that intranet DHCP server, and from that moment I couldn’t see anymore the HDD of Win7_host (although I played a lot with those Windows Virtual PC Settings/Integration Features/Enable at startup, drives etc)


Then I read this post Kari, where you said:

Again, you said „copy the XP Mode vhd file” that is ONE FILE (not files aka not plural)
And then you said AGAIN „and replace it with the one” – your words, „THE ONE” file NOT files .


So I did copy that 30GB vhd (that contained a ton of Oracle ERP DB and other important stuff) and then I uninstalled & re-Installed as you indicated but at the end, when I tried to use my old 30GB vhd file, an error window appeared:

and the „C:\Users\MyUserName\Virtual Machines\Windows XP Mode.vmcx” file was gone.


Is it possible to start Xpmode and re-use and old „Windows XP Mode.vhd” ? (using just "that" one-file)

Hi Fringius, welcome to the Seven Forums.

After reinstalling Virtual PC and XP Mode, create a new virtual machine using your old backed up XP Mode virtual hard drive (vhd). To do this, follow instructions in this tutorial: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/8254-windows-virtual-pc-create-virtual-machine.html.

Step 9 in this tutorial shows you how to use existing vhd on a new virtual machine. Select your old XP Mode vhd and continue as told in tutorial.

Dear Kari, I have to apologize to you!
I’m sorry, you were right.
Saving just ONE file (that big [FONT=&quot]vhd) [/FONT]is sufficient ! (if you want to reinstall the whole VM & XPmode ensemble).


In my (stupid) case, after reinstalling, it didn’t work because I moved somewhere else (instead of simply renaming..) the newly created “Windows XP Mode.vhd” AND “Windows XP Mode.vmc” files before bringing my old “Windows XP Mode.vhd” in their place; and without that newly created vmc (virtual settings file), of course it won’t work


Now is OK (although “Integration Features” still don't work and I can't see the host disk but I'm glad is ok)

Found method to re-install Integration Components

Before doing something drastic like deleting virtual machines due to missing Integration Components / Features, try the following.

In Microsoft TechNet Forum Integration features will not install after upgrade to XP mode virtual PC I found the following instructions to re-install Windows VPC Integration Components in a XP mode Virtual machine:

In the VIRTUAL machine:
1. Uninstall Virtual PC Components, if any.
2. Remove the device that is recognized from the device manager.
3. Rename the following 2 files:

• C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\wdf01000.sys and
• C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\wdfldr.sys

4. Restart the virtual system
5. Install the Integration components
6. When the hardware wizard comes up, select to manually install, enter the path in the first option - C:\Program Files\Virtual PC Integration Components and click next. it should recognize the unrecognised device. <In my case it went automatically.>
7. Restart and enable the Integration features
Refer to this for deleting files 2nd step. <Not necessary in my case>
XP/SP3 & Hyper-V RC1 - cannot upgrade integration services

I've been looking for a solution for some time, tried some. This really worked
