Hi there

I've tried this on a Windows VM - seems to work fine.

Some people are keeping XP alive with their own updates - some probably back ported from W2003 server which still has a bit of life left in it too.

Anyway it works fine on an XP VM running under VMware player or workstation. Host machines I'm using are Windows 7 / OPENSUSE LINUX rel 13.1

Introducing - Unofficial Windows XP SP4 - Windows XP - MSFN Forum

Cheers

Guys, if I download one of these home-grown SP4 things, how do I actually install it in my brand-new XP Mode AND so that the Windows Update in XP Mode thinks the updates are in?

I'm missing the basic steps. Thanks.

Hi there

I think it's primarily intended for HOST XP systems or for full XP VM's run under vmware / VBOX. I never liked XP mode - always seemd too much of a "Bolt on Cludge" or panic measure from Ms to assist in W7 migration.

If you need an XP VM then I'd install a full XP VM. Then if you want to apply the "SP4" it works fine. !!!

Jimbo - thanks. For me, XP Mode is just the first learning step before I try BOTH VMWare and VBox over the next few weekends.

Nevertheless, I don't have the basic steps how to use the SP4 thing at your link, which points to ryanvm.net.

For a noob like me, what does one DO with the download? There are no instructions - the audience seems to know what to do, but not me. Thanks.
