Yet another BSOD thread.

Ok since I was getting the occasional bsod in Vista its nothing new in Win 7. Just trying to find out the cause.

Event Viewer has details for the critical errors as Kernel-Power EventID 41. Google and looking around says this has something to do with power. And the bsod points out about a unrecoverable hardware issue. Is it as simple as my power supply is failing? I find this hard to believe since I leave the pc on for days at a time sometimes, never with any issue. And then when I play World of Warcraft i may crash within a few hrs (and yes, only in World of Warcraft).

So, driver issue? Or is the system being taxed and it really IS a power issue? Anyway, just before it happens my case will make a audible 'click' noise, and sometimes everything will freeze for a few seconds (sound, connection, everything) then it all comes back in a rush. And then will prob bsod fully within 5-10 mins.

Anyway, I orginally had issues with the stupid hibernate always giving me bsod. I disabled that. Im hoping its some other similar issue. Ideas?

64 bit Win7. 8 megs ram. Xi-Fi sound card (with latest driver from here), GTX 260 (again latest driver from here).

I think that is sounding like your PSU throwing the thermal overload switch and that would only occur after prolonged period of time when the system is drawing excessive amounts of current, like in your case when it's under the most load when playing graphic intensive games. I think you need to upgrade that power supply, you should have at least a 650W PSU for that card to run comfortably.

Ive got a 700w psu. Ok, so a gtx 260 is power hungry, and 4 hard drives, soundcard etc. Its the 'click' that was the thing that really threw me. If a psu has a thermal overload switch and thats it, then that kinda explains everything.

I really would have thought that 700w wud be fine tho sigh. Its not as if im running a sli rig here Maybe mucking about with power saving settings will help, but realistically nothing can be idling when I'm playing a graphic intensive game so i dont know if it will help. WoW may not sound hard on ur pc but it sure can be.

Unfortunately not all PSU are made equal and I don't know what model your PSU is but would I be correct in thinking that it is not a single Rail, I found out recently that they perform allot better then multi rail PSU's so when you upgrade keep that in mind. I have a GTX260 as well but instead of buying a very expensive 800W which is what I was going to get originally, I instead got another one the runs only the Graphics Card.

i take it back, its 750watts. My system shouldnt be drawing anymore than 500 watts. maybe the psu is faulty.

I had the same problem for over 1 month with my gtx260.
Tested new drv and tdr fix all that you can do.

The card was tested at dealer and no problem. Replaced mobo, bought new memory new hdd .. still same problem. Bought e new nexus 600w powersupply.

Nothing did help.

This was the solution.

I downloaded nvflash. Made a bootable usb stick. Made a copy of my gtx260 bios with nvflash.

Modified the bios using NiBitor. Changed the value voltage (extra) from 1.12v to 1.06v

After that working fine.. Get the same points in 3dmark 06 and vantage. But my system is stable.. And i never get nvlddmkm bsod anymore
