Thanks a lot for this great tutorial.

Another way to reset office icons back to default is running "Detect and repair" from the pictures manager help menu.
  1. Type "ois" in the search box at the start menu OR start menu > microsoft office > Microsoft Office [version] Tools > Microsoft Office Pictures Manager.
  2. Help > Detect and repair
  3. Check both of the options.
  4. Done.

Well I'd love to but I really think that adding this information in here is much better than opening another topic for a similar problem.

Anyway here is a full tutorial:
  1. Type "ois" in the search box at the start menu

    detectandrepair1a.png

OR click the start menu > microsoft office > Microsoft Office [version] Tools > Microsoft Office Pictures Manager.

    detectandrepair1b.png

  2. From the menu bar select Help > Detect and repair

    detectandrepair2.png

  3. Check both of the options.

    detectandrepair3.png

  4. That's it.
Good luck everyone!.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was happy to find these instructions. The nice tutorial earlier in the thread didn't work for me, I think because I'm running 64bit Windows. But this solution using the MS Office Pictures Manager (which I'd never heard of before) did the job without my having to open the hood.
