You can give it a try to set Marvel to AHCI in BIOS to see how it goes. If your Windows 7 drive will no longer boot or be recognized, then just restart the computer and change the Marvel BIOS setting back to IDE.
Thanks...I tried it previously it works. Someone said that at the present time, the Intel drivers/controllers are faster than the Marvell ones but that will change.

    Group Policy

    Brink,

Do you know if this setting can be managed by Group Policy in Vista and Windows 7? I work in a corporate environment and there has been a request to disable Write Caching on our Dell XT2 tablet SSD hard drives, because of the loss/corruption of a database when power failures occur.

If I could find the related policy to turn this off, I would save the world. :)

Or if not a policy, is there a command I can throw at the tablet with a script, or a registry setting to make this change?

    Any help would be appreciated!

Hello Parkerz, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm not sure that it can be done in Group Policy, but I found this that might help.

Enable "Turn off Windows write-cache buffer flushing on the device" through group policy

    Hello LM,

Since they are removable drives, I would not recommend to enable write cache for them.

    LM,

Since they are also removable drives, it would be safe to not have write-caching enabled for them as well.

If you had write-caching enabled for them you might get a bit of a performance gain for reading and writing to it, but you would have to remember to eject them using Safely Remove Hardware before disconnecting them or turning their power off to prevent data loss if something may still be writing or reading from them when you do.

Drives without Disk Caching Enabled detrimental to HDD?

Do drives with Read/Write disk caching disabled fail frequently?

Hello ginsengtract, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It has no effect on the life span of the HDD with write caching enabled or disable. It only affects performance. :)
