In that case, double check using Option 5 or 6 in the tutorial below to see if Chrome may have been set to always "Run as administrator".

Hello Brink, long time lurker here. Just wanted to say thanks for all of your tutorials. They're a lifesaver! :)

I have one issue if you could please help... I successfully followed the instructions in this thread and no longer have the UAC prompts for the apps I use. I still see one command window when opening up the app. I have them all set to minimized yet they're still appearing.

It's not that huge of a deal, it's just something that nags me a little and was wondering if I did something wrong.

Thanks a lot for all of your help!

Hello Shoegazer, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I can't remember how to run it silently right now, but I'll see if I can jog my memory.

Hopefully someone else may know before then. :)

I have a media player program I often use via a play option in the context (r-clik on media file) menu. Is there a way to modify or replace it so it can function as per this tutorial? -thx

    Hello Marc,

You could create the elevated shortcut, then should be able to add the shortcut to the context menu as a separate item for the file types. :)

thx Shawn - I knew that, hence, my question is worded ('modify'/'replace') to avoid adding additional items to an already overweight menu.

I'm not sure about that. You might see if you may be able to select the elevated shortcut as the default program for those files to see if that may have the context menu also use the elevated shortcut.

The program is winamp. The elevated (uac bypass) shortcut works fine. On my system, when I execute it a cmd window opens then closes quickly and then the app comes up. When I tried your suggestion the cmd window quickly opens then closes and nothing else happens. In addition I notice in the context menu all previous entries ('play in winamp', 'play in vlc', 'play in wmp', etc.) are gone.

Doesn't look like it'll work like that then.

UPDATE : I think I will forfeit all hope of ever understanding this OS. It all begins many moons ago upon discovering how the simple act of turning the machine off and then on fixes a host of things.

In this issue, I was exploring a few ideas to accomplish what I am seeking and I needed to re-name the program. POOF - That little uac shield that is attached to the program icon disappeared!! I clik it and PRESTO! The app fires up w/o the annoying uac prompt. WTF????

Again, I am clueless as usual - but am experiencing a rare moment of joy on this run.
