LOL, it's always nice when it fixes itself for you.

Did you have Winamp set to "Run as administrator" using compatibility mode by chance?

If so, then you could have turned it off to not get the UAC prompt.

Plus, that could be why it stopped when you renamed the .exe since it was registered in the registry with the old name.

'Turned it off'? You mean uncheck the 'Run as Administrator' box or uncheck the 'Run in Compatibility mode' box or uncheck both?

Re-named program back to original and tried all suggestions to best of my understanding. No joy. Fortunately this is the only program on my machine that prompts w/uac. Changing the program name eliminates the annoying prompt and produces no peripheral problems. I happy - thx Shawn.

The main thing is that you got it to work how you wanted. :)

    Yep!

BTW, I notice in the 'information' box of post #1 that this tutorial is applicable to "any installed program". Winamp certainly qualifies. However, I notice a UAC prompt appearing upon invocation of certain Windows programs, e.g. device manager, task scheduler, sys config., etc.. Is it ok to make shortcuts for these? Being the only user on this machine and my account being an 'admin' account, I question why I am getting these prompts to begin with.

I rarely invoke these so I probably won't. However, it is good to know that it's ok.

    Thx for your time sir.
