This time it worked but with a slight modification. You'll have to open resource hacker simply with a left click, opening it 'as an admin' will cause the file to not display.

Strange, it displays for me either way, but I'm glad to hear that you got it working.

Your using standard account, no?
Also, i forgot one thing, when i click 'save' to save the changes, it created another copy (modified) on my desktop instead of saving the changes to the opened file. It doesn't look normal too...

Ezio,

No, you must be logged in as an administrator to be able to do this tutorial.

You can delete the winlogon.exe_original.mui backup that ResHacker created if you like since you can easily do OPTION TWO below to restore the default settings.

Oops. I did it from a standard user account. That could be the reason for that odd behaviour... And oh! I didn't realize that that was a backup and hence the creation of another file on desktop..
Anyways, thanks Shawn for clearing the confusions...

Hello Brink,

I am having the same problem as xxxdannyxxx. I followed all the steps and it still won't change the "Welcome" message. I have also changed the logon background. Thank you!

Hello Danny and Eric. Welcome to Seven Forums Eric.

Just to check and make sure.....

Did you use "run as administrator" on Resource Hacker?

Did you "copy and replace" the modified file from the Desktop into the System32 folder?

If you did, then try doing it while logged in another administrator account or in the built-in Administrator account to see if it may just be something wrong in your user account.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
