my DEP is all greyed out,

i have several programs that have stopped working, i installed a racing game and it didnt work properly, searching the net for answers found many references to turning OFF DEP, so i did. the racing game still didnt work and has since been uninstalled, but now i'm left with my current problem,

will installing EMET re-activate DEP and get these previously working program working again

    thanks.

    Hello Angus, :)

If you have EMET installed, then it's normal for DEP to be grayed out like this.

You would need to add the exceptions in EMET instead of DEP now.

This is a very nice tut but already the title of the tool scares me, LOL. I prefer to stay off the web with Windows and use Linux for web traffic - much easier and safer.

Ok. I'd recommend to use the default settings for EMET. Please let us know how it went. :)

a friend recommended i do a full virus scan and see what happens after that, so i did........32.5 hrs and approx 15 million files later, it was done

i checked the DEP box and it was still greyed out, so i opened up the Command Prompt as an Administrator and typed....

    DEP - Enable or Disable

    bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn

    no luck, still greyed out

    then i found this

    bcdedit.exe /set nx OptIn

so i typed that in in the same way, as Administrator, rebooted the pc and woohoo, it was active. so i went to my desktop and opened all the programs that were inactive and success, they all worked as they should

so i'm all good at this point.
