    Brink:
Sorry, can't say EXACTLY when it happened, I only recall I installed VMTools and (VMWare Accessory) and I lost my DVD.

I think I have two options:
1 do an offline fix- Boot from USB, go to Command Prompt and find my Boot Hard Drive

    I think it's: sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=f:\windows

Yes, you could try Method Two in this tutorial to run SFC at boot to hopefully repair the system files.

    Brink:
Wish I had a program to read a folder with extracted Winsxs Manifest files and folders to replace the bad or missing ones seen in sfcdetails.txt. I ran SFC offline and it sttill says I have errors.

Q: Since I have USB with a Win7Pro x64 with a compressed install.wim file, can I path sfc to read and copy the files if uncompressed from a folder?
    Thanks, dbseven

As a test, does your DVD work properly after uninstalling VMWare and VMTools?

Tried this step but no cigar

Hi, I'm really sorry about posting on this old thread however I assumed it may be my best bet for some help, so please do not be too harsh on me.

I have tried these steps (booting from CD/DVD) thus managed to get into Command Prompt however I could not help but notice that

    • My Command Prompt version was different (maybe it's because I'm using Vista Ultimate x64)
    • At the start of my command it stated "X:\sources>" rather then "X:\windows\system32>

This is the command I used whilst in boot mode from my CD/DVD

    "X:\sources>sfc /scannow /offbootdir=d:\ /offwindir=d:\windows"

When I pressed Enter I got a message on the screen that mentioned that the windows repair service won't start

Any help surrounding this will be highly appreciated.

    Kind regards

    Peter

Hello Korby, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Yep, you'll need to use a Windows 7 installation DVD/USB instead.

Understood Brink, I've been trying to obtain a legal copy of Windows 7 for quite some time now although no such luck I'm afraid due to other more pressing household bills. I'll certainly return to these forums when I've managed to obtain a copy of Windows 7.

    Your reply is highly appreciated.

    Kind Regards

I do not think this will work for me as I only have a legal copy of Windows Ultimate, not Windows 7.
