    Shortcuts in Startup don't work

I have check this thread pretty well. I have not problem getting a shortcut into the startup folder and I have verified by several methods that the shortcuts are there. However, they do no execute. I have confirmed the shortcut is good as when I double click them the apps do run. Any ideas on what a shortcut in the Startup folder would not run on startup?

Hello Joe, and welcome to Seven Forums.

What program is the shortcut for? Does the program that the shortcut opens require UAC approval before it will open?

One of them does and one of them doesn't. I would love to be able to set individual programs that I use frequently to not require UAC but haven't found that either. Both programs are from Control Vision. One is Anywhere Update Center and the other is Anywhere Maxnav Updater. They both have the UAC shield on the shortcut.

Ok, since they have the UAC shield, that would be why. Programs that require UAC permission will not be allowed to run at startup normally using startup programs.

Instead you will need to Create a task to Start a program (Step 20 below) with the program's EXE file, check Run with highest privileges (Step Four below), and have it set to be triggered at startup (Step Five below).

    Hope this helps,

I would like to suggest the following tools:

    Startup Control Panel
    Mike Lin's Home Page

Advantage: has a trash for deactivated autostart entries

    Startup Monitor
    Mike Lin's Home Page

Advantage: warning window pops up when something wants to install as autostart. Very useful.

    Another tool suggestion would be:
    Starter
    http://codestuff.tripod.com/products_starter.html

Advantaqe: full compatible with msconfig (no trash).

    Doesn't Work for VPN

These options don't work for a VPN connection. Pre-Windows 7, I could just add the VPN shortcut to the startup folder and it would connect automatically on startup.

    Hey Guys,

Is there a way to remove a startup program without having to go into selective startup?

I want to disable/remove these programs from being on that msconfig list all together. I don't want to have to run my computer in selective startup everytime i turn it on, I'd rather have them removed and start them after windows boots up rather then inevitably watching my lower right task bar slowly fill up with stuff i only need on a casual basis..

If you know a fix, let me know

    Thanx

    KaiN
