It sounds like you may have downloaded and installed the RC 1.7.0 build of RT Seven Lite instead of the Beta 2.6.0 build. See the NOTE box under step 1 for more on this.

Allow me to pick your brain if I may. Here's my situation. My notebook is an OEM (Gateway) which came with the factory installed recovery partition and no installation DVD. I created the required factory recovery DVD's(3),1 Gateway Recovery disc w/drivers & apps (1.8GB) and a Win 7 System Repair Disc (280 mb). The idea of slipstreaming the installation DVD w/SP1 was not even an option since it's an OEM version & I had no installation DVD.

After a failed attempt installing SP1 thru WU (posted @ Bleepin starting @ post #26) I did a factory restore & successfully integrated SP1 with the standalone (900mb) x64exe. I now have an SP1 OEM installation with no practical backup, as the Recovery DVD's I burned and the recovery partition are factory (April 2010). Which leads me to my question(s).

What would you suggest I do to back up my present installation? What I have other than the aforementioned DVD's (useless unless I want to redo the whole process) are the following:

The Digital River 3gb x64 ISO (no SP) burned to a DVD tested OK in VMWare.
A 3.63gb Win 7 x64 SP1 DVD using your tutorial method, tested OK in VMWare.
The standalone 903mb x64 exe burned to DVD.
An Ubuntu 10.10 Live CD.

I downloaded & installed Macrium Reflect (Free) after installing SP1 but having never used such methods or programs I found it to be extremely confusing at first glance thru the help files and will hold off on creating a backup until I've read thru the entire help directory. I did burn the Macrium Linux/DOS Rescue DVD. Would this be enough to "save" my present install should something go wrong? Or the Ubuntu CD? Should I do a clean install with my slipstreamed DVD? Something else entirely?

Sorry if this is off-topic and for the noobish questions, but...well, I'm a noob and I want to be sure before taking any further steps.

Hello Joe,

Since you have a OEM (Gateway) Windows 7, you would not be able to create a slipstream Windows 7 SP1.

You could either create a system image backup to another HDD, or use a drive image program like Macrium Reflect to keep image backups to be able to restore Windows 7 with SP1 already installed.

Oh, ok. I didn't think the OEM would work. Well in that case, you should be able to use either one to install Windows 7 with SP1.

For backing up, I would recommend either option in my post above to a separate HDD.

I would simply go with the full system option Shawn pointed to since that will include the factory recover partition along with the present SP1 installed copy of 7. If you have a second internal the image is created and stored much faster then seen on external usb drives however. So expect to take a bit.

In other news I can show how the integration went when adding the IE 9 MSU file into the mix and seeing that one item tended to.
(Note this one is also unlocked since I have to look after two separate 7 machines and coming in a month or so another 7 x86 laptop as well. That will likely already see SP1 but not IE 9 being new in May solving part of the problem.)

As you can see from these here I conducted several tests with the RT7Lite and now have the last seen there including IE 9. I've been noticing the program is actually performing better now since the more you use it the better it acts! I burned a few coasters in the meantime!
