The bootable USB may not have worked out when created the first time. You might try creating another one to see if that may be the issue.

After hitting F12 during POST the drive option to boot from comes up and I select the USB option. My desktop has several USB options (floppy/cdrom/hdd), and I selected USB-HDD. My laptop isn't so fancy and only has one USB option but I get the same error. I think you're probably right and it was corrupted somwhere during the process. Mercury in retrograde, no doubt.

If you like, start over and create a new one to see how it may work.

I ended redoing things a few times here in order to get the 64bit ISO to fit onto a 4gb flash drive if you recalll. That 70mb drive space factor was finally overcome using a little 3rd party help for seeing the slipstreamed iso written to a 4gb rather then the RT 7 Lite's need for the larger 8gb size.

I ran several tests for both 32bit and 64bit alike while primarily only running the 64bit 7 with different combinations of updates. Ran into one or two bad writes to the flash drives used but saw good burns to bllank dvds.

The iso that did finally fit onto the 4gb flash drive however only saw two essential updates rolled into that however while 27 were seen during the first tests. You may need several attempts to get the one you want to stay with. But it's worth the effort.

I tried again, but it still gave me the 'invalid system disk' when trying to boot off of the usb thumb drive. The drive shows up as 'USB-HDD0' in BIOS when looking at HD boot order, and if I select USB-HDD from the F12 (boot options) on startup, that's the error I get. I tried EasyBSD to see if I could 'fix' the boot on the drive, but it still didn't work. The DVD I burned did work though. Are there some particular files in the root directory that 'should' be there in order for the boot to work?

Yes, the boot files will have to be on the USB or DVD for it to be bootable. If you followed the steps exactly as is in the tutorial they will be on them.

I must admit that I'm at a loss as to where you might be going wrong at.

Agreed! The only problem encountered with the write to usb flash drive option was the need for a larger then 4gb flash drive for the 64bit ISOs using the option included.

My finding was simply using another program with only two updates to see one fit on a 4gb drive. That simply offered a little more file compression to an extent to overcome the 70mb over situation.

The larger 16gb flash drives used for testing the flash drive option however were always made bootable unless you are missing a step or two. The 32bit ISOs written to 4gb flash drives also were found ready for use.

The thing you can try there if you have been rushing through this at all would be going through the steps one at a time and before simply rushing the intehrated ISO to flash drive first save it to a folder. Then you use the wirite option to browse to the folder and see the new ISO written with success.

I think you have been omitting that step trying to rush the write and are running into these errors. This is would be the thing to do now is first integrate SP1 into the new ISO and save to file before anything else. Give that a try.

Either you missed catching it in the capture or you are lacking the Boot folder. The rest of the folders and files seem to be present except one crutial namely the bootmgr file itself! The bootmgr.efi file is there but not the other also essential along the boot folder which will contain the BCD store(boot configuration information).

That's where your problems are as far as what is seen on the flash drive itself. Here's another image to compare to showing all files and folders intact. You'll notice that everything appears just like it would on the retail dvd even after the SP1 integrattion.

OK - well, that helps! I did it an a$$-backwards way... I made the iso file, then used MS usb tool to burn it to the thumb drive - and voila, it worked! Something in the RT program was not writing 'bootmgr' when writing to the usb.
