This worked great, I will have to reinstall Outlook, but before I do, I noticed that my laptop (Sony VAIO Windows 8.1) will not recognise this computer anymore? The media devices on my laptop have also not changed their name. System Restore or keep going?

Hello Anthony, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Media device names are another draw back since they will not change either.

It's usually best to create a new user account to use instead to ensure that everything will have the new name.

System Restore failed, should I just go back and manually change everything back?

Anthony,

Yeah, system restore and restore points would not affect user folders since they are not included.

You could undo, or create a new user account to use instead.

Error

I followed the instructions exactly, regedit and everything. For some reason after I log in to the changed account, Windows showed that I had a new unlocked folder in my users folder with my old accounts name. For example, I changed my user name from Old to New, and in my "new" account, It showed that it had changed, but windows created and is using a new user folder called "old". Why does it do it and is there a workaround? I'm pretty sure this would cause program issues because of appdata files missing.

Hello MCWarriorz, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Sounds like something went wrong somewhere along the steps. It's best to create a new user account with the name you want instead though.

Change username

When you finished with this changes, there is still one problem.
For exmple, if you open task manager/process, there is still "old_user".
The solution is next:
open Command prompt and type netplwiz
Ones click on old username, click properties and there, where is "old_user", simple change it with "new_user" and restart computer.
Thats it.

P.S.: Sorry for my english, my native language is diferrent.

User Profile folder - static folder instead of created by user signon
A twist on the creation of user folders on a drive other than C: in Win 7 Ultimate.
