Windows 7: SSD - Install and Transfer the Operating System

That's OK you can always borrow more if you need it using the boot disk. Some files cannot move in the Windows edition since the OS is running.

What's really cool is it can give/take space to/from non-adjacent partitions, too.

Wolfgang may want you to check your alignment after that.

Mike, I just got up and saw all that. Since you already have enough expert helpers, I will refrain from confusing you. But if you have any specific questions for me, post back.

Nah, if it works, chkdsk does not help. That's a check in case of errors.

One thing I always do. I get rid of the hiberfile. Saves some space on the SSD. The command is powercfg -h off

Just open an elevated command prompt and run that command, powercfg -h off . It will save you space on the SSD the same size of your ram, plus it's not really needed with an SSD. Just hibernate will not be available to use. But, I'm not WHS, just in case you didn't notice.

Mike, a lot of the guides you see on the Internet were written several years ago for 1ST and 2ND generation SSDs. They were needed for them. SSDs have advanced quite a bit since then and all this stuff is not needed. I turn off Hibernate, set Defrag to Manual, Reduce virtual memory to what I think I need based on how much ram I have and that's about all I do.

Never turn off superfetch. That would slow down your system.

This recommendation is from the early days of SSDs when people thought that there was a limited amount of write operations. But today's SSDs will last for 100 years with all the write operations you can ever trigger.

LOL, Steve just said the same thing whilst I was typing.
