Windows 7: SSD - Install and Transfer the Operating System

Good idea to check the TRIM and the WEI. My drive went from 5.9 to 7.6.

The backup/restore operation had me concerned at first. The prog analysed the partition very carefully, something I've never seen before. I suppose it was part of the alignment process.

Once up, I had to go through and make adjustments, like turning off a scheduled defrag, setting my network shares back up, and correcting paths for my backup jobs. I think it will be worth it.

Blessings.

From the email exchange it was a bouncing ball back and forth between Paragon and clever... a call was needed to both

I'm glad you were able to pull it off! It's been long enough ago, it would be harder for me to pull off. I already have enough on my plate to deal with between now and next year anyway.

I don't know what going wrong ThrashZone.
I've used both Paragon migrate and just Macrium to migrate from a HDD to SSD without a hitch on 2 different PCs. Except for some reason I never understood Paragon disabled the reliability monitor.

From what the Macrium error seems it was the external case with the issue ?
At the least I would of hoped Paragon would of shown an error instead of success :/

I couldn't let that slide even though only 15 bucks which I must of hit them on a sell I went back later and it showed 19.99,
Cheers.

migrate O/S with Macrium Reflect

I have read the first 2 pages of this thread, but not the intervening several pages. So if this question has been asked and answered, I apologize.

I note from the first pages that Win7 conformation of the o/s, which includes a 100MB System Reserve Partition as well as the C:\ primary (boot) partition, may present a problem when migrating to a SSD.

If I understand the gui of Macrium Reflect one can select these two partitions and then choose "Clone this Disk" and in the next screen drag both partitions to the selected SSD.

I am assuming that this should create the proper partitions on the SSD and move both. Am I correct?

I should note that the current C:\ partition is only 150GB total (90 used) and the SSD is 250GB.

Thanks.

This is not about cloning but about imaging. If you want to clone, you should clone the whole disk. My advice is to make images of the system reserved and the C partition and then restore those on the SSD. Cloning can be iffy and does not always work.

If you want to get rid of the system reserved, copy the bootmgr to C. That's how I do it. Then you need only image/restore the C partition.

Wolfgang a little off topic but I have seen software that will clone partitions such as Acronis, EaseUS and Aoimi in your experience are these worth trying? because I have on occasions wanted to clone a drive from lrager to smaller and did it once and for the life of me forget how I did but it did affect the boot up procedure on the new drive.

Just as by the by I have always cloned the whole thing with Macrium and have had no issues with it.

Same here. The only time I had a clone fail was when the source drive had gotten corrupted. That time, my bacon...er...data was saved by having an additional backup.

John, I know very little about these other products. I am sure they have cloning facilities.

I have successfully cloned with free Macrium too. But I also had cases where it did not work. The case where it worked was from a smaller disk to a larger disk. I think where it did not work was from a larger disk to a smaller disk - but I think LF said that she had that working too.
