Don't worry about the rant. But I really do not understand what might have happened. If you installed Win7 on the SSD with all other disks disconnected and then change the boot sequence to load from the SSD, this thing should perform like greased with butter.
Not being able to connect or any other troubles should really not occur. Where in the sequence of events could you have taken the wrong turn.
I don't really know Wolfgang I followed the secure erase and the diskpart to the letter and made sure the SSD was the only drive in the machine when I loaded the 7 OS.
The result took me by complete surprise as it looks like a very basic set up with very little in the way of things I could do in it.
I might just do the whole thing again and see what happens - I did it that way instead of keeping the HDD connected to make sure there was no chance of anything "migrating" across as I suspect has happened to muck up the first install.
Yes, you must disconnect the HDD. Else a lot of undesirable things can happen.
Btw: You can also use Disk Management (in lieu of Diskpart) to format the SSD. If you define a primary, active partition with DM, it will align the SSD.
Ok I will do that soon as I can and I might just stick to diskpart as I am used to using it now and I might even use the older HDD to do those things and not the one that was hooked up to do it (I have two 1TB's in the machine).
It has been cloned from the one that might have been the problem but one that was done some time ago now so may not have stuff that will affect any outcome of setting up the SSD.

Now for the transfer of the OS oh boy I am so glad I watched that video and should have done it the first place with a bit more attention and I wouldn't have got myself into strife in the first place.
Now I know I am a pain but have got to the Macrium bit and this is where I am stalling I have the Macrium app but it opens to this window and I just cannot figure out how to transfer the C; to the new U: partition in the SSD.
Sorry but I am so used to using EaseUS to do this sort of stuff only it hasn't got this function that I can find.
I used Macrium when I installed my SSD a few days ago and it went without a hitch. All I did was,
1. Create an image before installing the SSD to a different drive (and not partition on the same drive as Windows was installed on).
2. Powered down and disconnected the HDD and connected the SSD in its place.
3. Rebooted and booted from the Macrium recovery disk and used it to load the image onto the SSD.
4. Restarted once that as done and Windows loaded right up.
5. Went into Disk Management and extended the partition as the HDD I was using was only 80 GB and the new SSD is 120 GB. It didn't even convert it to a dynamic disk as it is the OS/system drive.
I have a feeling #5 is where you're running into problems as you're trying to put a 800+ GB image/partition onto a 120 GB drive. If I am not mistaken you're either going to have to go with a clean Windows install or do this,
to shrink the original partition before loading the image to the SSD.Note: Most free imaging programs cannot shrink the originating partition to fit into the usually much smaller C: partition on the SSD - even if the amount of data in that partition would fit. In that case you will need to shrink the C: partition on the HDD prior to imaging it. The HDD C: partition must be smaller or equal in size to the designated partition on the SSD. For that operation I also recommend this program because Disk Management might not be able to shrink it enough.
Yeah thanks stormy I found out how to do the image about thirty minutes before you posted but although the image went across it was missing the MBR for some reason. So have gone back to a clean install but now having problems with scaling the screen as you know the 7 default was made for a cinema sized one LOL!!
If I cannot get this to work I am going to clone my laptop one (M4) and hang the the lot of them as I have had M$ up to there!!
Why they just couldn't just install to fir the screen is beyond me.
No mate it was definitely MBR as it wouldn't boot from the SSD. I tried a repair install but that was waste of time .
So I have formatted the thing again and the install has gone in this time with no nasty messages.
The only problem besides the continuing Loading OS............ is scaling my monitor as good old Ati have "revised" the catalyst control centre to put it as politely as I can in front of the Geekesses and now is a nightmare to behold
