    Awesome giude, really well done!

But i have a question. Instead to pay for that program (even it is only 20$). Could i use EZ Gig IV?

I read that it does exactly the same.

Please can you confirm? I'm receiving my SSD..can't wait!

Not sure what 'paid program' you are referring to.

To the one showed in the first post..that is "Paragon Migrate OS to SSD 2.0".

But it isn't free (only 20$ btw). Instead EZ Gig IV by Apricorn seems to be free and perfectly the same to the first.

I would like to have a confirmation of what i said...of course you're more expert than me.

What I have to do is to migrate OS and data from an HDD to my new SSD..and then change the HDD with the SSD (on my laptop) and use it gaining speed and all the benefits SSD is able to give

So the question is. Somebody of you knows these two SW? If yes, do they perform the same work (transfer OS and data in order to create a bootable SSD)?

    Thx

Sorry, I have no idea what this instant EZ gig is. But the Paragon program works very well. Else you can always use the manual transfer method as described in the tutorial.

If you do not want to install the free Macrium, you can also download the WinPE .iso linked in the tutorial and do the image and recovery with that. You only need to burn it to a CD and load it from the CD.

From reading the documentation this program sounds like it works in a similar way as the Paragon program. But without testing it there is no way of telling what it will do when e.g. the source partition is larger than the destination. I am also wondering what they imply with 'Clone'. Usually a clone is a copy of all partitions on a disk.

In any case, I would not leave it up to that program to help me deselect the parts that I do not want to transfer. It is safer to adjust the source partition to the size of the target before you start the transfer process.

That's right. So even though i have just 80gb of data..i think i'll buy the program you mentioned on the first post. at least i'm sure that works.

thx again for your support and for the guide.

if one day you'll try this "ez gig IV" please let me know..just for curiosity :)

EDIT: last question. Do I use a USB to sata cable or can I put the SSD directly in the 2,5" box?

Before you spend the 20 bucks, why don't you try the free program. What can you lose. Just make sure your data fits on the M4 allowing for appr. 20% free space (because of garbage collection).

If it does not work, you can still get the Paragon program. What you then might first want to do (optionally) is a Secure Erase of the M4 to set it back to factory specs. Guide Secure Erase With bootable CD/USB Linux.. Point and Click Method

PS: If your M4 comes with firmware level 0309, leave it that way. Some people report slower performance with the 000F update which would be the next higher level. I left my M4 on 0309 and never had any problem. But if it comes with 000F, you'll have to live with it.
