Where in the thread is SSD to SSD

WHS, first, as always, thank you for putting the time in. Great post/thread.

Guys, my 180 GB SSD only as 22 GB left and that is with me pushing certain data and other files to other drives. Ideally, I wouldn't have to move samples for music recording /production off the SSD. So I'm considering a 250 or 500 GB SSD.

Can you point me to where in the thread the most recent SSD to SSD easy easy easy way to do it might be? Have Macrium Server edition.

    Thanks much,
    Chamlin

Mate I just clone the things to be honest savea lot of fiddling aorund you can clean up the new drive afterwards. Just one piece of advice though DO NOT leave it too long like I did and lost an awful lot of data because I let the drive get too full.

I take you are using CCleaner and this to clean out rubbish if no the I would if I were you.

I've made a backup of my old HDD and I have a new SSD installed in a laptop. Must I use a USB Enclosure or is there not a method to which I don't need a USB Enclosure ? Currently when the laptop boots I get a;insert a system disk in drive error.

    Hi,
Yes you need an enclosure how else would the image be transferred to the new ssd ?
You would also need the recovery disk created before or after you created the system image and inserted into the cd/ dvd burner and boot to it
I just tried it seems mine I had to enter bios and disable quick start before the recovery cd would show up in the boot options.

I just use Macrium and system reimage to your new SSD. Check the alignment and maybe recover unused space with say Partition Wizard but with the correct Macrium settings you shouldn't need to do this.

I found one of my SSDs wasn't aligned but Partition Wizard has a simple tool to align with a reimage or system reinstall.
How to align SSD partition with a free partition manager?

I used a inexpensive adapter cable to transfer the OS HDD to the SSD. I used Paragon OS to SSD as it does everything very simple like.

A SSD enclosure is simply a SSD Drive is simply placed into an external enclosure then a USB connection is connected to the computer.

If I have a back up on an external USB drive, why can't I, with the SSD installed mirror the image backup from the external USB drive to the new SSD, which is already installed ?

I would guess the image creation utility points to the original destination
I suppose if it's connected then the recovery disk/ usb flash utility WinPE would see it where ever you placed it.

Doesn't matter if it's in an enclosure or directly connected internally or on a flash drive large enough to hold the image.

I have a WinPE 5.0 Recovery Disc; but WinPE won't boot, so I can't mirror the backup to the SSD ?
