Does anyone know if sfc /scannow asks for an install DVD and all I have is an OEM recovery partition and recovery disks I made......will that work?

I have install disks (OEM) from other installs, would those work since they have the system files?

    Thnaks

    Hi Nate,

No, SFC does not ask for the installation disc anymore in Vista or Windows 7. Everything needed is included inside the OS when installed now. :)

    Brink,

You say you have to run it from an elevated command prompt and cannot use the Run box.. well... I didn't know that.. apparently My PC doesn't know that either.. I am running it now from the box in the start menu that says "Search for Programs and Files".. It is working just like running it from an XP run box.

It's not finished yet, and I didn't tell it to save a log file so I do not know if it's really going to find fix and replace files..

To me, this silly "Search for Programs and Files" box, seems to double as a Run box for most things you are used to doing with a Run box.

    Hello DarkPhoenix,

Strange, it will not run the command from my RUN box. Not even with a elevated RUN box using this shortcut.

To make it work all I do is copy and paste this into the box:" sfc /scannow " (without the quotes of course) and hit the Enter key. I don't even wait for it to "search " anything. I just checked it again and it still works. It will work if I type it manually too.

    I am using Windows 7 Ultimate Version 6.1.7600 (Win7 RTM) 64 bit.

It may be something different in our versions?

Same version, build, and edition I have. Are you logged into the built-in Administrator account by chance?

The /scanboot command scans all protected system files every time that you start your computer. This command requires access to the Windows installation source files.:)
