Point sfc /scannow at a downloaded .iso of Win 7 Pro 64-bit?

Brink - When I do a sfc /scannow (or similar) to touch up my existing Win 7 Pro 64-bit SP1, can I point it to a new download of the Win 7 Pro 64-bit SP1 installation .iso?

A MS tech is suggesting that I repair my existing Win 7 Pro 64-bit SP1 by doing an "inplace upgrade", and so I downloaded the .iso per his directions. But before actually running it from its setup.exe, is there a way to get its benefits without the risks, via sfc /scannow or similar? And would it be that iso or some "tech" equivalent download?

    Thanks.

    Hello glnz, :)

Let's see what your sfcdetails from OPTION THREE report to see if there's anything that actually needs to be repaired. Hopefully, it's something that's not needed or critical.

Brink - totally clean, both the scannow and the desktop .txt report.

Is it still possible there are any errors or corruptions of ntdll.dll or kernelbase.dll ?? Or are we confident there are none?

These two dll's appeared in two Event Viewer Error messages (as the relevant "modules") over the last month in connection with my problems UNinstalling and REinstalling Office 365 Home 64-bit.

Can we say 100% that they're OK, or not sure?

If SFC didn't report any issues with them, then they will not be corrupted or modified.

In this case, you have some other issue causing the error messages that should be continued in your other thread. :)

    Hi Brink,

I restored an Acronis backup of my system partition (C) from September 2015. I immediately started Windows Updates. The "Checking for updates..." runs for several hours, without listing updates.

I downloaded and installed System Update Readiness Tool (SURT). Again, Windows Update runs for many hours with no updates being listed.

I ran "sfc /scannow" three times.

The results of the third run are in the attached "sfcdetails.txt" file.

I hope you can solve this problem.

    Thanks.

    Hello OldGrantonian, :)

I only see a hash mismatch with the "hcw72ATV.sys" file for your "Hauppauge Voyager AVstream Driver". Reinstalling the driver should sort that for you.

I don't see anything that would affect Windows Update. I would recommend to create a new thread in the Windows Update forum area for that issue to see what we can do to help.

    Thanks Brink.

I'll ask some questions, and maybe you can tell me if I need to redirect my questions to a different thread.

My Device Manager makes no mention of TV. (My Dell is 3 years old.)

The Dell site does not mention that driver if I type in my Service Tag.

I googled "hcw72ATV.sys", and found it could be a virus, or it could be legitimate.

Can you tell me where that driver is stored?

I've just done a full scan with Kaspersky and MalwareBytes. Nothing.

Googling says that it's a AVstream driver for the Hauppauge Stick TV card.

You could search the "C:" drive for "hcw72ATV.sys" to see if it may find it.

What's the difference between scannow and chkdsk?

    Hello Rochelle, :)

"SFC /scannow" is to check and repair Windows system files.

"chkdsk" is to check the integrity of a hard drive for bad sectors and file system errors.
