With FF you should be able to export your settings, then import then into a new install, or use a portable version that can just be copied over.

And no, most of your programs will not work like that. Common apps still require an installation, and if you skip that, then it is very likely that they will not work right.

To fully backup your Firefox, you need to copy these two folders:

    • C.\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Local\Mozilla
    • C.\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla

This way you get all your Firefox settings, profiles, saved passwords, bookmarks etc. to a new installation.

On new installation, install FF and run it once. Then copy above mentioned folders to your new installation.

You may have typed it wrong. Make sure it is letter for letter.

What is you are restoring Windows 7 from the RC?

I thought I was doing a fresh instal and over writing everything but now I have a Windows.old.000 folder. I can follow the tut instructions but fro the last part there is no code for restoring the boot sector from the RC.

That is because it is not needed. Just restart.

    Hmm.....

I don't know. Reinstalling would still be the better option....

    Registry

    This is what I've done.

    Reinstalled Win 7 64.

In the process of recovering files and data from Windows.old as I write this.

I have a registry backup from when the machine went down so I'm thinking if I restore this registry, system should function as it did before, make sense????

I'm curious if you've managed to install windows on an existing partition, changing that partition prior to installation, i.e. perhaps renaming windows and other folders that a new installation would look for prior to installation allowing for a windows only installation and leaving everything else intact
