helpful Windows 7 install suggestion

I was told that for my needs (wiping my paritioned OEM Vista versioned machine), I'd be best off purchasing the OEM System Builder Pack provided on a OEI DVD which installs Windows 7 Pro.

If I read the earlier replies correctly (suggesting to download W7 from MS), I think I don't have to tell you what the benefits are in having it on a disk.

best regards and happ-e-trails,

Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) SP1

I was frustrated installing to a new SSD. Kept getting an error when selecting the drive to install on saying "Setup was iunable to create new system partition" Drove me crazy until I finally disconnected all other drive (internal and external). Then setup was a breeze.
To me it's ridiculous that this was neccessary but it solved the problem.

64-bit Windows 10 Pro

Hello Javerudy, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Usually if the installation fails, Windows will automatically cancel the installation and go back to your previous OS as long as it was not deleted or formated. However, I would always recommend to backup anything that you do not want to lose to be safe in case it doesn't for some whatever reason.

You will not be able to do a system restore to go back to a previous OS. The best thing for this is to create a image (clone) of your OS hard drive using some image backup program like the free Macrium Reflect, and save it to another HDD or partition before installing Windows 7. This way if need, you can just restore the image to be back to where you were at the time the image was created.

Hope this helps,

Windows 7 Ultimate x64 OEM

If you buy the OEM version (HUGE savings) then you only get the 32 OR the 64 bit. one OR the other. So that makes things pretty easy - your pick is done before it even arrives :)
I don't have personal experience with the retail version - but last I knew it was near the beginning of the process...

Hello Rageej, and welcome to Seven Forums.

This can help you compare the two see which one may work better for you. If you plan on having more than 4GB of RAM, then you should go with the 64-bit Windows 7.

Hope this helps,
