Hello Mike, and welcome to Seven Forums.
What are you booting from, and how are you running the Windows 7 installation? Shawn |

I extract the files then I click on "setup" and it takes me to the installation process. I have like 2 copies of 7 on my harddrive from me trying to get a clean install going..I didn't find this guide however till I searched Google. The FIRST time I installed 7 over Vista I DID get the option for Step 7 but now I'm not getting that option? Edit: On Step 7 I'm getting everything BUT the option for (Drive options (advanced) And below "Load Driver" I get "To make changes to partitions. restart Windows from the installation disc." I'm not running a disc? |

The only way you will get Drive options (advanced) is to do the installation at boot, and not from running the installation from within your current OS.
![]() However, you will still get a new Windows 7 installation. After the installation is finished, run Disk Cleanup to remove the Files discarded by Windows upgrade for the C:\Windows.old folder. These will be the remnants of the previous installation. Hope this helps, Shawn |

I deleted Windows.old already.. But my drive is showing 104GBs of USED space ..looks like I'm screwed then until I can afford some blank DVDs.
I'd like to know though why that drive option was available to me the first time I installed Win 7 over Vista.. |

I'm not sure why or how you did either.
![]() Did you do it with Disk Cleanup? There may be other files it finds to get some of that space back. You might also see how much of that space is being used by System Protection for restore points. |

I've done what you said to do. I now have a folder called Windows.old where all the old OS and other stuff is stored. Once I've got W7 up and working, all the drivers transferred over, and all data transferred, is there a reason to keep the old OS? I need the disk space!
