Hi there i wonder if someone could help me, im about to install windows 7 64 bit to replace my current os. Its the first time ive installed an os so im a bit nervous about losing anything i cant replace. Ive had a good look at the guide and it seems very helpful, there is just one point i want to confirm, When selecting the partition im installing 7 onto will the other partitions on that drive remain untouched or would it be best to backup everything on that drive. Im hoping just to backup the few bits and bobs on the partition i set aside for my os.

Any help or other advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Hello Haelix, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Doing the installation as in this tutorial will only wipe out the partition that you select Windows 7 to be installed on. It will not touch the other partitions on that drive. :)

    Hi Brink,

Thanks for the confirmation, it seemed that way but i just wanted to be sure, that should save me some time backing things up.

    Hello Johnny,

If you are using a Windows 7 installation DVD to install with, then you could click on the Drive options (advanced) link at that stage, and select each partition and click on Delete for each one to wipe them all out. Afterwards, you should be able to install Windows 7 on the remaining single Disk 0.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Johnny,

That should work, but be sure to follow the tutorial below instead since it's a upgrade to be able to activate it.

    Johnny,

That's fine. OPTION ONE in that tutorial is the same as this one except for making sure that the the Automatically activate Windows when I'm online box is left unchecked.

The other OPTIONS in that tutorial are other ways to do it in case that one didn't work.
