    Thanks, Shawn...
I can't get into Windows to do a backup, and the laptop is stuck in a StartUp Repair Loop... I can boot from my Installation disk, but it doesn't start Windows - makes an effort, and then nothing! I get a black screen with a white arrow cursor.
I have downloaded a Recovery Disk, but it doesn't seem to boot from that either...
    Help, please... :)

    Brett,

You might see if this may help.

    Startup Repair Infinite Loop Recovery

If still not, then you might post this issue in the Crashes and Debugging forum area to see if we may be able to get it started again for you.

    Thank you...
I had already read that tutorial, and tried to implement it - I get stuck between Steps 3 and 4, and can get no further - I even posted at the end of the thread to get help there...

And I've posted in the Crashes and Debugging list, under the title: Startup Repair - Unable to escape...

I'm running out of ideas, and have been chasing this for a week :)
I need the data on it, and of course, have not backed up in a couple of months...

    Appreciate your help!

Thank you everyone for your support, advice and solutions!
My laptop is back, up and running, and I'm I'm doing a Backup as I type this! (on another computer)

I eventually took out the hard drive, and went to Best Buy and bought a SATA drive convertor to USB, and accessed the HDD through another computer - I ran CHKDSK, on the drive, and it was able to repair some corrupted files. The data was then readable as an external drive... I then copied my most importnat files onto the other laptop, and then re-assembled my laptop. Booted up, and there it was!!!

I'm doing backups, now, and after that I will run a whole battery of diagnostics on it...

I really appreciate your support - it has been a rough week since the laptop died, and you guys have been invaluable! We may not have solved it directly, but you all gave me the next step to pursue...
    Best wishes, Brett

    User name

    Sirs,
Can I enter "Administrator" as the user name at step 11, described in this tutorial? If so, when I am logged in for the first time, is the administrator account is active automatically for me. Or I should again make it active, by the "net users administrator /active:yes" command?

Hello Peter, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I would recommend to use a different name, if it would even let you use that name, since this account setup during installation would not be the built-in Administrator account. Yes, you would have to use that command to activate the built-in Administrator account.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

That is the great answer. I appreciate. Thank you. I had other answers but not as clear as this one. And if you search you become sure. I quote your answer with the source in those places if you do not mind.
