dont you have to set the second boot to your hard drive?
Hello Cammey, and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you mean the boot priority order in the BIOS, then yes, you would have your HDD set as the 2nd one and usually the CD/DVD or USB flash drive first.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Sorry no offence but I had to point that out because it's not listed in any step,or at lest I could not find it listed and if you dont realy know what your doing and it's a first time build,or a first reinstall well it's kinda important. But other than that your post helped my son(11y/o) with his first build on his own so thank you.He just could not figure out what the error message about his HDD was all about.

    Cammey,

No offence taken at all. That's what we are for to help with any question. I'll add this to the note in the tutorial. :)

"Before doing this clean install, you should download and save all of your device drivers to DVD"

    How do you do that?

Also, how can I get a list of all my installed software, so that I can go looking for the install media before I lose my current system?

    Thanks.

Basically clean install Windows 7 means an installation of Windows 7 on an unused partition on hard drive. In most cases, a clean install of Windows 7 means to remove an existing OS (Windows XP, Linux, Windows 7... doesn't matter) and to replace with fresh Windows 7 installation.

    You're basically correct.

You will end up with a brand new, fresh OS installation. You will have to install all of your programs and update all of your drivers.

A question about the 100 mb "reserved space" in clean win 7 install

I have a question about this, your note at step #7. Don't you have to allocate a partition to get a separate 100 mb space? I am confused, and am about to set out trying to clean up a corrupt mbr, and would like the 100 mb system reserved space back. I will be using the "elevated command prompt" to clean it up, and then will be re-installing Win 7.
Your tutorials are really helpful, btw. jeff

If there are any partitions you won't get the 100MB System Reserved.

If there are no partitions, you will get it.
