    I would agree with your assessment Dave. It appears to me an issue with WDO not updating the USB.

    I'm not sure what else to suggest other than using a 3rd party scanner.

    I can't get it to update the definitions. It appears to start downloading, then claims there is a problem with the connection.

    I also tried it in my own custom pe - same problem with MSSS. However, eset downloads and scans fine
    and my internet browser etc all work.

    I used msstool version 4.9.221.0. which downloads the definitions and the packed wim, but it doesn't seem possible to update after that.
