    Windows never restarts from USB!!

I went through all the steps to download defender offline onto a USB flash drive. When I plug the usb into the laptop and restart it, the laptop starts just as normal. What do I have to do to make the BIOS startup from the defender offline program that is installed on the USB????

Hello Nathan, and welcome to Seven Forums.

During boot, you will need to press the key stated on the boot screen for entering the "Boot Menu", then select to boot from your USB key. Doing this has your computer boot from the USB key for just this one time. You'll have to be quick to see what key you need to press to avoid having to restart again to have time to press it. :)

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    followed the steps... but...

Right i diligently followed the steps and when I close don windows defener offline my pc automatically closes down and restarts... back in windows defender offline.

So let it rescan, try again this time taking the USB out and it restarts... to a black screen saying F2, F5 or F12 (i think) to do something or other. none of these options work.

What has happened and why wont it let me back into windows?

Could someone please verify something for me?

I downloaded WDO 32bit and ran it against a VM that has not changed since June 2012.

    It quickly gives me this:
    Windows Defender Offline-wdo1.jpg

    And after a while this:
    Windows Defender Offline-wdo2.jpg

I'm sure that I got the 32bit version.
    Windows Defender Offline-32.jpg

I've downloaded it 4 times via two different ISPs. I've checked 6 W7 VDIs (VirtualBox) and 2 XP VHDs (Microsoft Virtual PC 2007) using two different XP SP3 hosts with 4GB RAM. The results are all the same. I downloaded and ran WDO yesterday* against one of those frozen VDIs and it scanned normally.

Edit: in case I was not clear...
...I would like for someone to download the WDO32bit and see if they get the same results.

Edit2: *Actually, it was late Thrusday or early Friday morning - it has been a long week :-(

    Hello Sam,

I'm afraid that I don't have any XP (SP3) host systems setup to test with.

Are you using a WDO DVD, USB, or ISO?

WDO ISO - I have the W7pro32bit SP1 VM boot to the ISO.

It would be nice if someone could test it in a VM - no matter what the host OS. I'm just wondering if the download is bad at the moment. I'm not suggested WDO in any posts until I figure this out.

I just tested a few minutes ago - still bad for me.

I just tested a 32-bit WDO ISO on a 32-bit Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 VM (Windows Virtual PC), and it failed to run with a HAL error instead. The host is a 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 dual booting with 64-bit Windows 8 Pro.

I also tested a 64-bit WDO USB on a 64-bit Windows 8 Pro and 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 not on a VM, and it works just fine though.

    Good day to you all,

Couple of queries concerning Windows Defender Offline…

I have recently cut the WDO iso file to DVD. On running the application at startup, by default it ran a quick scan without the option of full or custom scan. Is there anyway to adjust this default setting to full scan?

Secondly, the DVD where WDO is housed is re-writable, is it possible to download virus definition updates & write to the WDO - DVD.

Any assistance on offer would be appreciated.

    Cheers.

    Ich
