No, no defragmenting. Also, as long as you end up with an .ETL file (and potentially a .CAB file) in the output folder after that error on the screen, you are fine.

    Boot trace Failure

I was following your tutorial to start a boot trace with xbootmgr and i ran into a pit fall. xbootmgr did not even get to the stage of restarting my system to create the trace. Instead i got a pop up saying "Could not register for callback at next boot."

I checked to see if a log file was created and on my root directory i found the xbootmgr log file
[2012/03/17-21:53:39.716] The file 'C:\Windows\system32\cmd' is not a valid callback command.
[2012/03/19-19:23:05.102] Detected Win7RTM physical (ReadyBoot) prefetcher; the SysMain service is auto-started.
    [2012/03/19-19:23:05.104] Registering for auto-run with a 120000 msec delay...
[2012/03/19-19:23:05.104] Failed to open auto-run reg key with 0x00000002.
[2012/03/19-19:23:05.104] Could not register for callback at next boot.
Does anyone know what registery key that xbootmgr might have failed to open?

Are you sure that you are running the cmd prompt to launch the command with full administrative credentials (aka, run as admin while logged on as an administrator)?

So I am assuming that once we do this, we need to reset the PagingExecutive value back to "0" correct?

    Yes, that would be recommended.

Yet again, having followed the tutorial to the letter, I just end up with an error message at the end of the process (after the reboot and the 5' wait for the trace). Am I ever going to get this to work? Any ideas what is wrong this time? The error message is below. Thanks again for any help.

Assuming you are logged in with administrative credentials, that shouldn't happen. If you're logged in as a regular user, you should get a UAC prompt. If you've disabled UAC, the tool may not work (with the type of error you see).

I'll try again with UAC active, Thanks!

Disabling UAC disables a bunch of things, not just UAC prompts .
