Just you let you know, I could not ping localhost successfully as well, always packet loss between 50% and 100%. However, pinging my router, pinging with IPv6 (ping localhost -6) worked fine. Internet access worked, but not really speedy.

Disabling Windows firewall and Zonelarm (Free) Firewall did not solve the problem, but uninstalling did.

It is one week ago I downloaded it, seems they have still issues here.

I also noticed the debug files in Windows/Internet Logs growing rapidly (200 MB / hour).

Somebody with a recommendation regarding a free firewall?

Comodo Firewall is free and is recommended by many geeks here.

Hi Dinesh,

Thanks for this tutorial. I quickly established that my AV (which I have been using for some time without a problem) was the problem. I have now replaced it with MSE.

Hi Dinesh,

Thanks for the help you provided for some reason I cant still access internet... I can see my wireless settings and when I ping I get reply from default gateway bu not website like Google or yahoo...

It says cant find host

I have tried everything, including installing new Intel wireless driver for my lenovo t61 laptop...

please advise...

Even when I connect using modem directly still cant access internet... this happened since I downloaded Itunes 9 on my laptop ... I cant think of another reason... also I had a freeware spyware program called spyware terminator which was blocking few good services, but I have uninstalled that as well...

please help

Hi Deno, its not your PC's fault. I'd suggest you to contact your ISP and check with them for any known outage in your area.

HELLO

I have moved in to a new university student dorm where internet is provided by university via DSL cable.
In my previous dorm I was using wireless internet so never really used LAN much before.
Now here I'm not able to connect due to " Windows couldn't automatically detect this network's proxy settings"

I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, I have tried "netsh" commands that were mentioned in other topic, flush.bat set of commands, even tried the restore method but nothing worked. Have been up all night to solve this issue it's so frustrating. I was checking this tutorial I have pinged but I have noticed that there is no default gateway address of LAN local area network.

Please help with this problem. Thanks

Hi, it looks like your university has a static IP/DNS server address. Have you checked with any other guy in the university and match the settings on his laptop with yours?

Yup and theirs is working fine. It seems im the only one having this issue
I thought it might be my cable but I bought a new one and nothing change.

2. Check IP Address: IPv4 Address is not under "Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection". The entirety of this section reads:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix........ :
Description.............. : Intel <R> 82578DC Gigabit Network Connection
Physical Address.............. : 90-FB-A6-4B-74-AD
DHCP Enabled................. : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled.......... : Yes

However, IP v4 Address is in the next section called "Ethernet adapter Hamachi" (the eighth line of it). The value on this line follows the pattern 25.177.XX.XXX<Preferred>. Does this indicate a valid IP address? I am not sure if it matters that IPv4 Address does not appear under the "Ethernet Adapter Local Area Connection"
