The tutorial link in my post above can help show you. :)
Tried System Repair Disc. Hear DVD drive running but end up at Windows sign-on screen. Can't get to Safe Mode. Any tricks I'm missing?
Did you press a key if/when prompted to boot from the DVD?
How about by booting with an installation DVD/USB?
You could download the latest official Windows 7 with SP1 ISO file at the link below while on another computer.
Microsoft: Windows 7 Direct Download Links
...and create a USB or DVD from the ISO using the tutorial below.

I do not get any response from the Repair disc installation... No "Press any key to boot, etc". I have a Win7 ISO file. Does it have to be latest version? Could this be a new virus or malware? Seems odd that some many things are failing to work
Double check to make sure that you have the DVD drive set first in the boot priority list in BIOS, and your hard drive 2nd.
Nar, that ISO file should work for just this.
If you suspect a virus, then you might consider doing a clean install. However, you'll be amazed how much is affected by a user profile error.
How do I check DVD priority if I can't get to OS? Sorry to be so dense. I use the machine, not study it.
You're welcome Paul. I'm happy to hear that you got it sorted.
Yeah, restore points and system images can definitely pull you out of the fire when needed.
