    I am a single UserAdmin.

Five months ago I downloaded a ZIP file from HTG.com that contained 2 REG files.
    - one to install and the second to uninstall/remove Take Ownership

Not knowing what I was doing ( aka. "putting my hand in the fire to see if it is really hot") I applied Take Ownership (as User) to C drive, and my laptop locked up.
    - somehow my laptop recovered (but I don't know if I have sabotaged myself for sometime in the future
Stupid people do stupid things -- I know !
Like a 2 year-old with all those light and buttons , just begging to be pushed.
Should I unistall Take Ownership using Brinks tute ?
    - as user/admin I cannot see the advantage of Take Ownership on my single-user PC ?
    - I would be grateful for any guidance :)

    NOTE:
I have compared the two install versions. Brinks has 24 lines of script and the H*G 10 lines of script
    Is more "better" ?

Un-Installing Brink's short-cut will not effect any changes you have already made. but simply remove the convenience the short-cut provides.

Taking ownership of the System Drive will not stop Windows from working from day to day but it will dramatically reduce your security from potential "accidents" and malware attacks - the original set of permissions on a Windows install are carefully designed to protect you against accidental, ( and malicious), changes to system files.

There are lists on the net of the original settings, (I think there has been various discussions here on the forum), but as this is a task akin to un-scrambling eggs, I would always suggest that you look at a fresh install as soon as you can to return the status to that designed

    Hello Russell, :)

The .reg file in our tutorial here is just a bit more thorough.
    • It will also add "Take Ownership" to the context menu of drives and .dll files.
    • Includes default registry entries for .exe files for "Run as administrator" in case an older copy was used that replaced it with "Take Ownership".
    • The lines in the .reg also include for icons and position in the context menu.
Yeah, you don't want to take ownership of the C drive, and is why there is a big red warning box at the top of the tutorial for that. However, having "Take Ownership" for drives could be useful for removable or data drives.

Like any tool, if not used carefully or properly, it can do damage.

That worked.. in the sense I could delete and replace it.. But after a reboot the battery as well as wifi icons are gone..! :/ The custom file was tested and reported working under x64 7 though.. Which is the one I have..

Actually ALL stock icons (sound, bluetooth, etc..) are gone.. And putting back the original file + reboot doesn't bring them back. How do I roll back?

You may be able to do a system restore using a restore point dated before you did this depending on where the files was.
