You're welcome. :)
Hi Shawn,
I have a question regarding WinRar ..
If you associate .rar with WinRar's program will I then be able to select a couple of .rar files .... right click on them and see the EXTRACT feature.
As you probably know some .rar files are joined meaning they need to be opened together (I think).
I've tried selecting WinRar from the programs file but for some reason Windows 7 won't acknowledge it to EXTRACT with.
Even when I've tried to use WinZip to Extract the files if I select more than 1 .rar file, I lose the ability to EXTRACT, I can OPEN but not EXTRACT multiple files.
If I use Open With ..
WinRar is there, but only can be used on ONE file (not two)
This is so perplexing and the .otf fix you created for me straightened my opening of those files right out so I was just wondering if your magic could straighten out my WinRar problem.
Thanks so much for any help or information you might have on this.
Jenn
Hi Shawn,
I checked my settings and everything is the same as your screenshot, except I don't see the 7-Zip in mine. (Screenshot Attached)
Also, everytime WinRar opens I have to use the UAC giving it permission to open the file.
I've got a question and you might know the answer.
Some programs I install will have a tiny Microsoft emblem embedded in the right hand corner of the installed programs shortcut ... then other programs I install will not have it. (Screenshot Attached)
Is there any reason for this??? Because WinRar is one of the installed programs showing the Microsoft emblem on the shortcut. I would REALLY LOVE to KNOW why that happens.
Thank you for trying to help me but obviously this was not the answer for me.
Jenn
Jenn,
You might see if uninstalling and reinstalling WinRAR may allow it to open those type of files by default afterwards.
The shield icon you see is the UAC overlay icon. It indicates that you will get a UAC prompt that you must then allow permission before that shortcut or program will be allowed to run or open.
Hi Shawn,
Thank YOU so very much for that information on the embedded Microsoft emblem, that was driving me nuts.
You know what is weird, in prowling around because I was thinking like you to uninstall and then try again ... for some reason WinRar is not showing up in the Installed Programs but it is there under C:\Programs .. HOW WEIRD. In all my years on the computer I've never seen that but this Windows 7 is a totally new animal for me.
Now my problem is, how to uninstall a program that Windows is not pulling into programs that I CAN uninstall.
Ohhh me, more headaches.
I guess I'll have to find an uninstall program other than windows to see if it can find it and will pick it up.
Again, Thank YOU so much.
Jenn
