    THANK YOU!!!!

Somehow my .msi and .msp file associations were set to notepad, so I could no longer install windows installer packages. When I tried to fix manually, it would still not be correct. This worked perfectly!!! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!!!

    Hello RJ,

It would be the lnk (LNK) download to fix this. :)

    That's good news so far.

Yeah, this is not for the Send to context menu. You can use step 2 in the tutorial below for that instead though. :)

    Need other file extentions

    .docx, .doc, .xls, .pub,

Well I need all the file extentions for Microsoft Office, or a solution for my problem. I had the same problem with .pdf and solved it with this download of the . reg file and then Merge, (thanks alot for that!!!) but the file extentions for Microsoft Office are not listed. I don't know if it's the same problem but it started at the same time, I already rebuilted the Icon Cache but didn't work. If there is another solution I'll be very gratefull. Thanks!!!

Hello Gags, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Did you want to remove the associations of them from Office? I can easily add them to do this.

Since these are program specific, I can't add them to restore them to have their associations be for Office since it also varies on what version of Office you have installed as well.

Hi, I kept looking thru other posts, and I found a post that actually leaded me to the actual problem. Thanks for your quick attention.
    Just for other to know,
I opened up regedit and went to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT file. I eventually located the Word.Document.12 (since the version of office I have is v.12) listing in the registry, so I opened that up. There is a key value under that heading named DefaultIcon. It pointed to “C:\Windows\Installer\{90120000-0030-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}\wordicon.exe,2? This folder might be named differently on your computer but in the same place.
Thus, I opened up windows explorer, made sure I could view hidden files, and browsed over to c:\windows\installer. Of course, there was no {90120000-0030-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE} folder. I searched all over the internet for the wordicon.exe file and only found an outdated version of it that wasn’t for use with Office 2007. I had about given up on going that route, until I searched one of my coworkers’ computers and all the files turned up there. I quickly copied the files over to a flash drive, put them in the same folder (creat it if you have to, and name it the way it appears in your computer in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT) on my computer, and restarted.
The blank icons were still there for my excel files, but my coworker and I found that as soon as we changed the default program that opens the .xlsx file from Excel to Adobe Acrobat and then back to Excel, it restored the icon settings back to normal.
So, to sum it all up, my registry was looking in a folder that wasn’t there for the icons that were stored in executables that weren’t there, and even after I restored the exe files it took some convincing to get them to come back.

Good lock to all, and thanks!!!!

By the way, thanks for the .pdf file, that solved the problem.
