Hi Brink- awesome list thanks.
Spying this earlier I thought it might help me effect a get-around concerning my mp3 file icons. It all but did the trick other than I am now getting thumbnail images for files which have cover art, which was not the case before. I'm assuming this is because the default is for WMP? WMP is deactivated on my system, and I do not wish to disable thumbnails completely in Explorer as I use them for all other file types apart from those concerned with music.
Can you tell me if removing the WMP entries under the following registry key would have any advers effects;
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.mp3
Or is it possible to create the reg file without any WMP references?
Thanks in advance,
Oaken
Hello Oaken,
That location controls what default program is used by the current user for the .mp3 file extension. I wouldn't recommend to delete the default settings at this location below if you wanted to keep Windows Media Player as the default program though.
Code:[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.mp3] [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.mp3\OpenWithList] "a"="wmplayer.exe" "MRUList"="a" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.mp3\OpenWithProgids] "WMP11.AssocFile.MP3"=hex(0): [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.mp3\UserChoice] "Progid"="WMP11.AssocFile.MP3"

Hi Brink,
Thank you for the info. I was actually thinking to get rid of any reg items for WMP earlier, though I think I'll have to start a thread for the issue once my brain has cooled down.
Thanx alot for all your work,this list is bound to come in handy sometime(for me anyway)...Thanx alot,have bookied this page
Hello Kiara, and welcome to Seven Forums.
TMP has been added to the list to help. By default, this file extension does not have a program associated with it, so the download will restore this file extension to the default of being unassociated. :)
Hope this helps,
