Hello slimmbadnitt, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm sorry, but I don't know what you are referring to. Could you post back with a link to what you are referencing along with more details? :)

Hi and thankyou for this fix! I was able to help a user who was experiencing this however was unable to discern what was its cause and the likelyhood of it happening again (she was also arguing with a colleague whether or not it was her fault.. i honestly couldn't settle it for I have no idea how it happend! :P). I was wondering if someone could shed some light on this and explain why this occurs and what could cause it?

Hello inammathe, and welcome to Seven Forums.

This usually happens with someone uses "Open with" and leaves the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file box checked. Sometimes it could be malware that made the association change.

    Hope this helps some, :)

Hi Brink and thanks for the prompt response.

However wouldn't such an action only make the change for that file type? Every file type was attempting to open using Word.

That happens when the default program for .exe or .lnk (LNK shortcuts) was changed to open with Word by either the user or malware. Since it's Word, I would say the user did it by mistake.

Would it be possible to get a registry file for the file extension .py? It's a python file and screwed something up and can't change it back to default because the option is greyed out.

    Thanks in advance.

Hello Tobu, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm sorry, but the .py file type is not a default file extension of Windows 7.

Are you able to set it's normal default program as the default program with all of it's associations in Default Programs?

Hope this helps for now, :)
