Hey guys. New guy here. My problem is I set to open an .ips file for a ROM hack (Super Mario World) to open with zsnes.exe when it has to open with Windows Shell Common. I know that you can't find the WSC anywhere so is there anyway to reset the .ips files to their regular settings. I tried going into registry editor and deleting the .ips folder and resatrting and that didn't help. I also tried unassociate.exe but it doesn't work either. . Thanks in advance.

Hello rottencurry, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if the .reg file below may be able to help unassociate .isp files. It will remove the usual registry entries for it. After merging the .reg file, restart the computer to apply.

    Hope this helps, :)

Hey guys, bit of a problem thats currently got me a bit stumped. Currently using win7 home premium 64bit.

My SSD was failing, so I bought another, and cloned the info on to the new one. Woo go me, all seemed fine, except for the norton internet security not running ... tried a lot of things to get it going, and came across a bigger problem, which is that I cannot seem to open or do anything with any file types.

I went through points 1,2 and 3 at the start of this post, and got stuck at the 'tip' about fixing merge. I was able to download the zip .reg file to fix file associations, but when I went to click it I got the open with what problem.

Merge wasnt listed as an option, so I tried the tip to fix merge. Problem is that one seems to be the only one pointing correctly at regedit. So I reset comp, still same problem, merge isnt there.

Unzipping doesnt seem to be available either, and downloading other .exe programs like winzip isnt helping me as no .exe files are running, everything just says open with what ...

Notepad DOES seem to work, is it worth me trying to manually edit in the settings listed in regedit (since that works) and if so, I take it I just copy and paste the text from each string into the section that it matches?

I also tried inserting the win7 cd and tried a start up repair, but it said nothing was wrong. Perhaps there is something else I can try there? Thanks all for the time to read this post, and for any help you can offer.

Id rather not do a clean install if I can help it, this is the first time Ive used an SSD drive to boot a system that has everything else stored on a normal large HDD.

Hello Zurt, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It sounds like you may have been infected by malware or a virus with all of your association messed up like that.

If so, then I would recommend doing a clean install.

Thanks for the quick response Brink.

Yeah, considering the other problems that have popped up, websites not staying logged in, favourites not adding, history not recording, I dont think there is another option. Ah well, thanks for the help anyway. :)

You're welcome. Be sure to do a full scan of your system with Malwarebytes after the clean install is finished to help make sure that you system is clean.

Hello trout, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Yes, you would normally be able to download and merge the .reg file in "Safe Mode with networking".

If this is with Internet Explorer, have you already tried completely resetting IE to see if that may help?
