I'm happy to hear that you got it sorted, but sorry it took a complete restore.

I need a few more default files...

    Hi,

I've been causually looking for a fix for my video files for the last couple of years. When I stumbled upon this fix I was a little dubious, but gave it a try. It worked. I now have all the video previews that I used to have before I started having trouble.

Now that I've got most of them working, I would like to get the rest, if possible. My video files that play with my VLC Player are the only ones now not displaying a preview thumnail. The file types are:
    .divx
    .rm
    .flv
As far as I can tell those are the only ones I need. (.vob) files are displaying, thanks to you.

Thank you for supplying this much needed fix to the community.

    Welcome Kanton to Seven forums.
As far as I have found all files that play only in the VLC player always show the silly VLC traffic cone. The way I got arounf it was to convert them to mp4 files the they will play in Windows Media Player (WMP).
    I use Handbrake for conversion.

    Thanks.

I have video conversion software I can use if I get the urge. But it is good to know.

And thanks again for helping people out with this. I've seen this question asked by a lot of people who legitimately have a problem (not just people who have their settings wrong), and wish this page with the solution you posted was easier to find.

    I appreciate the information.

    You're welcome.
I do some conversion but I have the entire Star Trek Voyager series on a USB drive, all .mkv and I'm not bothering with converting 25.6GB.

Hello Juan, and welcome to Seven Forums.

The file types .srt and .sup are not included by default in Windows 7. If you like, the .reg file below will unassociated .srt and .sup files to no longer have a default program assigned to them.

    Hope this helps, :)
