Hello cdk, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Check to see if the yellow Tip box under step 3 may be able to sort the merge issue. :)

What happens when you try to merge the .reg file for .lnk (LNK)? Any errors?

Without the Merge option, it sounds like you do not have regedit.exe set as the default program for .reg files like in the yellow tip box under step 3.

When you download the .reg file for .lnk (LNK) does it have a .reg file extension and icon on it?

What happens when you double click on the .reg file to run it? Do you get the prompts in step 4 to approve merging it?

Please go ahead and post a screenshot showing what you see instead to see if something may stand out. :)

    lex extension

I mistakenly tried to open a .lex extension by choosing Adobe Acrobat as the program to open it. The extension didn't change but the icon for the file changed to the Acrobat icon. I don't know if this is going to create a problem or not but I can't remove Acrobat as the default program to open this file. I just want to get things back to the way they were. The lex extension is for a dictionary spelling file. The lex extension isn't on your list.

Hello rcir, and welcome to Seven Forums.

By default, .lex files are not associated with a program in Windows 7. If you like, the .reg file attached below will unassociate .lex files for you.

    Hope this helps, :)
