Hi and welcome to the Forum. CFG files are text files and it is normal to open them in Notepad. What program did they open in before you "accidentaly changed them"?

A couple of times a year, we've needed to use this utility on my Dad's Win7 Home machine after Microsoft Updates changes file associations some how.

Seems to me in the past you had one reg file that would change all the default associations back without having to apply (merge) all the individual reg files. When checking today, couldn't find that file and it took awhile to apply all the various reg files for the various extensions.

Was I imagining the existence of one master file? If not, any chance to get it again?

Hello pwashburn, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm afraid that we never had a single .reg file for all file type associations since it would too impractical.

We do have a .zip file to download in the tutorial that contains all the .reg files for each file type to help.

Hello,

I'd be very grateful if you could add the GPX file extension to your list so that it is available for restoring to default.

With thanks in advance,

RobH

Hello @RobH,

The .reg file below will unassociate .gpx files for you.
